This soft, luminous stone is a variety of gypsum that's been wax-coated to protect the stone and create a smooth polish. This translucent golden stone can have inner striations, giving areas of the material a cat's eye appearance; the domed top and flat back increasing the effect.
Named after the Greek goddess of the moon (Selene), selenite is associated with the crown and third eye chakras and is believed to promote mental purity and serenity. It is thought to compel the holder to complete self-honesty and is used by crystal practitioners to cleanse other stones. A very soft material, selenite can be scratched with a fingernail. Sizes, shapes and colors may vary with handcrafted items.
