The name tourmaline comes from a Sinhalese word tura mali, meaning "mixed colored stones," appropriate for the myriad of colors this gemstone displays. Pink tourmaline is a rare and highly sought after variety of tourmaline and is the birthstone for October along with opal. According to metaphysical beliefs, pink tourmaline is said to inspire love, spirituality and creativity, and to give wisdom and enhance one's willpower. Pink tourmaline radiates the highest amount of love out of all the different tourmaline colors.
