Instructions
These post earrings look elegant, and making them can seem a bit daunting. No need to worry--you just work one round of brick stitch, two rounds of netting and then secure the pearl. It's a snap!
String 1 seed bead and pass the needle through the center of the ring. Position the bead so it sits on the outside edge of the ring. Pass back up through the seed bead and pull tight so the bead sits firmly on the outside edge of the ring. Anchor the thread with a knot. Pass the needle back down the center of the ring.
Repeat this Step around the ring until you've added 16 seed beads; this is your foundation round. After you've added the last bead, pass down through the first bead added in this round and up through the second bead.
String 3 beads. Pass down into the third bead added in the foundation round and up through the fourth. Pull tight, creating your first ''netted point.'' String 3 beads and pass down into the fifth bead and up through the sixth. Pull tight. Continue around until you've made 8 netted points. When finished, exit from the first bead added in the foundation round.
For the third round, you'll be adding a seed bead on the side of the foundation round beads. To start, string 1 seed bead. Pass up through the second foundation-row bead, through the net added there and down through the third foundation-row bead. String 1 seed bead, pass up through the fourth foundation-row bead, through the net added there and down through the fifth foundation-row bead. Continue around the foundation round, adding a total of 8 seed beads. When finished, pass through beads on the foundation round so you can exit one of the beads just added.
String 3 seed beads and pass through the next bead placed in the previous round. Continue around, adding a net between each single bead. When you complete this Step you will have a second round of nets that lay over the first one created in Step 3. To finish, weave through beads and exit from the point of one of the nets added in this Step.
String 1 seed bead, 1 pearl, and 1 seed bead. Pass through the point of the opposite net. String 1 seed bead, pass back through the pearl, and pull tight. String 1 seed bead and pass through the point bead which you first exited. Repeat this thread path until the pearl is very secure.
Weave the thread through all the beads to reinforce and secure the bead work. Trim the thread close to the beads.
Place a thin layer of glue on the surface of the post finding, and another thin layer on the back of the earring. Let dry for 10 minutes then carefully press the post and the earring together. Let dry overnight before wearing your new creation!
