Disc Cutter Set User Guide

Instructions

Product Information:

Create clean, consistent cuts in soft metals with a quality 12-piece disc cutter set. This disc cutter is made of hardened and tempered shock-resistant steel and all surfaces are precision-ground with a polished finish. Its spring-loaded die plate allows for easy placement of materials being punched. The rubber base absorbs energy of hammer blows, reducing noise and shock to surrounding area.

Note: This product is intended for use with soft materials up to 16 gauge when using a hammer.

Tips for Using the Disc Cutter:

  • The cutter can be used to punch two or more matching discs at once, provided that the combined thickness of the materials does not exceed 16 gauge.
  • Set the disc cutter on a heavy workbench or other substantial work platform when punching.
  • Always use a lubricant on punches to prolong the life of the punch and help ensure a smooth, defect-free cut.
  • To keep the die plates parallel to each other and to provide the best alignment, always place a metal shim the same thickness as the metal you're punching between the die plates, across from the hole you will be punching.
  • To prevent work-hardening, use a copper hammer or rubber mallet to strike the punch.

Using the Disc Cutter:

Step 1

Turn the handle slightly to loosen the clamping bolt and remove the punches.

Step 2

Place the material to be cut between the die plates, under the desired hole size.

Step 3

Place a shim between the die plates opposite the hole.

Step 4

Tighten the handle to secure the material and shim. If the handle is blocking the area of the punch you will be using, push down on the center of the handle, then lift and re-position it so that it is out of the way. Release the handle in its new position.

Step 5

Lubricate the punch.

Step 6

Place the punch into the hole of the upper die plate.

Step 7

Strike the punch firmly with a mallet/hammer.

Step 8

Loosen the handle and lift both plates straight off the work surface, allowing the cut disc and the punch to drop from the hole.
