Rainbow calsilica is a man-made material created for the gemstone market from carbonate rock (aka calcite or powdered limestone) and plastic set in resin and colored by artificial coloring pigments. Since its first appearance in 2002, rainbow calsilica has been the subject of debate over whether it was naturally occurring or artificial, with some trying to pass it off as natural, claiming deposits were found in China, Brazil, Mexico and the Middle East. Rainbow calsilica gets its name from its layers of vibrant colors spanning the visible spectrum as well its composition of calcite and silica, found in quartz and a major component of sand. Cut into beads, cabochons and other jewelry-making components, rainbow calsilica is very desirable because of its bold, beautiful bands of colors.
Rainbow Calsilica Metaphysical Properties

Geologists, through testing, have determined that rainbow calsilica is made from a combination of powdered calcite carbonate rock and resin and then artificially colored with synthetic pigments to match the blue and yellow pigments. To make the stone more resilient, it is stabilized with a paraffin-like polymer substance.

Proper Care of Rainbow Calsilica
Clean rainbow calsilica jewelry with a soft dry cloth. Wash with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or soft brush. Dry thoroughly. Because it is a carbonate, rainbow calsilica is sensitive to acid and can be easily scratched. Do not apply harsh cleaning products that can include bleach and acid. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or steamers.

With such a range of colors, rainbow calsilica will work well with just about any color. You may want to consider how well the color patterns fit in with your design.
