Can polymer clay be painted on with water-based paints? Before or after baking? And what kind of sealer do you use on finished product?
You can use water-based paint on polymer clay, although we suggest acrylic paints for the best opacity. Do some test pieces to determine which paint gives you the result you are looking for.
You can paint polymer clay either before or after baking, but we recommend painting before you bake, as the paint will cure to the clay and create a durable bond.
To seal your clay there are a variety of good products. We love Swellegant!™ sealant as it dries very quickly and crystal clear with a matte finish so the sealant isn’t obvious, it just seals in your beautiful artwork.
